Privacy Policy
How the checker, AI Polish, analytics, ads, hosting, and contact messages handle data
๐ The Short Version
Routine grammar checking runs in your browser, so Grammarlyzer does not receive or store the text you paste for ordinary checks. AI Polish is different: it sends the draft only when you press the Polish button. Analytics, advertising, hosting, and contact tools may process limited technical data as described below.
What Data We Collect
Text You Enter
The text you type or paste for routine grammar checking is processed within your browser. It is not sent to a Grammarlyzer server for the normal grammar-check workflow.
AI Polish Drafts
AI Polish is opt-in. If you press the Polish button, the draft you submit is sent to a cloud service to generate the selected rewrite. Do not use AI Polish for sensitive, confidential, or regulated text unless you are comfortable sending that draft for processing.
Analytics Data
We use Google Analytics and Ahrefs analytics to understand website traffic and aggregate product behavior. This includes:
- Pages visited
- Time spent on the site
- General geographic location (country/city level)
- Browser and device type
- Aggregate checker actions, such as apply, dismiss, copy, focus time, and scroll depth
Analytics data is used in aggregate to understand traffic and improve pages. We do not send draft content, selected text, replacement suggestions, email addresses, or full error sentences as analytics event parameters.
Cookies
Cookies or similar technologies may be used for:
- Google Analytics and Ahrefs analytics
- Google AdSense or other advertising features when enabled
- Basic site functionality
These services may collect technical identifiers, browser information, IP address data, page views, and ad interaction signals. They do not receive the text processed by the browser-local grammar checker from Grammarlyzer.
How Your Text Is Processed
When you use our grammar checker:
- You type or paste text into the editor
- The grammar checking algorithm runs in your browser
- Errors are highlighted and suggestions are shown
- When you leave or refresh the page, everything is gone
At no point does routine grammar-check text travel to a Grammarlyzer server. If you choose AI Polish, that specific submitted draft is sent for cloud processing.
What We Don't Do
- โ We don't store routine grammar-check text
- โ We don't sell your data
- โ We don't use browser-local checker text to train AI models
- โ We don't require an account for routine grammar checks
- โ We don't send the content you write as analytics event data
Third-Party Services
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate website and checker behavior, such as page views, scroll milestones, copy usage, focus time, and whether suggestions are applied or dismissed. These events use counts, categories, and timing signals rather than the draft itself. Google's privacy policy applies to data they collect. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Ahrefs Analytics
We may use Ahrefs analytics to understand aggregate page performance and search visibility. This data helps us find pages that need clearer explanations or better internal links.
Google AdSense
Grammarlyzer may display ads to support the free checker. When AdSense is enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Google explains how it uses data from partner sites at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Firebase Hosting
Our website is hosted on Firebase (a Google service). Firebase may log standard web server information like IP addresses and request timestamps. This is standard for any web hosting service.
Contact Messages
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, page URL, issue report, and message content. We use it to answer the request or correct site content.
Your Rights
For browser-local grammar checks, Grammarlyzer does not receive the draft text. For contact messages or account-related AI Polish features, you can ask us to review or delete information you sent by using the contact page. To remove your account and its data, see Account & Data Deletion.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we'll update this page and keep the disclosures aligned with the site's current analytics, advertising, hosting, and writing-tool behavior.
